Catriona Johnston is a Dance and Circus Artist. Her love of expression through movement developed from a young age. Catriona began her dance training from the age of four; exploring many movement styles, including; ballet, jazz, modern, Scottish Highland dance, and Tap. In 2001, Catriona chose to embark on a career in dance and began her professional studies at The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance. A year later, Catriona trained at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance and graduated with a BPA (Hons) degree in 2005. Catriona went on to tour and perform for many dance and theatre companies, including; Sakoba Dance Theatre, State of Flux Dance Film Company, Fusion Dance, Nusantara and Anwesha Ahmed Dance Company. In 2009, Catriona toured and performed as a Dance Artist for The Great British Circus, and in 2010, she was given the opportunity to work for Barefoot Productions in Egypt for eight months; through working for these companies Catriona became a great enthusiast for circus arts, and from there, began her journey as an aerialist. After two years of intensive training, Catriona graduated from The National Centre for Circus Arts in 2013, where she specialised in Dance Trapeze.
Catriona continues to work as an aerialist, dancer, tutor and choreographer with a focus on fusing movement with multi-discipinary art. Catriona enjoys exploring site-responsive work, and the use of film, and she experiments with contemporary dance, physical theatre, ballet, acrobalance, trapeze, aerial hoop, rope, street dance and swing dance. Catriona is also a competent fire performer with the use of poi, fire fans, and swinging torches.
